thx for reply but i am putting a 4.0 in a 96 EX awd & need some advice on what T/C to use, maybe it would be better if i just kept it awd, but anyhow i dont know what T/C to use ether way i go ???????????????????
thx noel

If its an explorer with a 4.0 there is no AWD transfer case....Its automatic 4wd. You can swap it out with a BW 1354 if you want, it bolts up, but will require you to do some wiring mods.

Alternatively, the easier thing to do would be the "brown wire mod" which will give you the same performance of a "locked" transfer case such as the 1354 with the addition of some wiring. You can find more info by searching on explorerforum.com

is a bm4404 for a 5.0 ???? because it says awd
the deal is i have a 98 4.0 ranger & a 96 awd EX 5.0 & i am going to swap motor & stuff from one to other both ways but am going to come up short 1 t/c for the ex
thx for any help noel

Yes, if its a V8 and only a V8 it has an AWD transfer case...The ranger t-case wont bolt up. You can however swap a 1356 or a 4406 in place though.

or he could put in a manual 1354 and call it perfect

Ok...little confusion here, let me clearify. It doesnt matter what vehicle the engine is in, it can only use what t-case has the correct bolt pattern to mate to it.

If your looking to get rid of the AWD t-case, the 5.0 V8 can only use a 1356 or a 4406. I believe there is an adapter you can get to use the 1354, but I wouldnt, just my opinion...

The 4.0 V6 can only use the 1350 and 1354, and of course the 4405 which is the automatic 4wd t-case.
