I hate the push button 4x4 in my 92 explorer, the motor is all screwed up on the transfer case. So 50 percent of the time you have to beat it with a hammer, rock, big stick, what ever you can find on the side of the road, to get it to engauge. Not working to well when my wife drives it.

I never have been a fan of electronics doing my 4x4 anyway. I have a 1350 out of a 88 Bronco II. Will it fit and or hold up to the 4.0?
This is not a daily driver it is only a back up 4x4.
I have the warn lockers on my 90 Bronco II that I am selling. These are going on the Explorer.
I know getting the manual shift transfer out of an explorer is the best way to go, however I have the 1350 sitting in my garage.

Thanks for any info.

The 1350 will bolt up to your transmission and work, its just the drive shaft is different from the 1354 in the explorer so you would need to have your drive shaft modified to get it to work right. You could also take the shift motor off your t-case in you truck and make your own manual 4wd shifter for it, it rotates so you could also do that if you're good with making things, I have seen it done before.

What I would do is just find a manual shifted 13-54. All Explorer transmissions, whether they had the electric or manual shifted t-case, had the brackets on the tail housings for the shifters. so all you'd have to do is pull out the electric shift 13-54, cut a hole in your floor, install the shifters and linkages, and install the manual shifted 13-54. It would require no driveshaft modifications and be fairly simple.

Also instead of cutting a hole in the floor find a ranger or explorer that had the manual and take the floor plate, because then its already notched out. What jg09 said is correct it'd be an easier swap if you just stick with a bw1354.
