transfer case noise

is there any thing i can do to make my transfer case more quite? Its in a 2001 for ranger works fine but it sounds like a tire roar all the time, even in 2 wheel drive I have chaged the atf fluid but did not help.

Sounds like the chain in your transfer case has stretched. I would be on the lookout for a new transfer case if I were you.

I'd jackstand the rear axle and have an assistant "drive" the truck while you safely pinpoint the noise.

Could be the rear axle.

I have pinpointed the noise to the transfer case. I have another t case is it very compicated to replace the chain?

If you dont know what you're doing, yes. I would just replace the whole case.

FWIW, they are a dime a dozen at the junkyards. Find one in a low mileage Ranger and swap it. Looks cheaper than buying parts for the one you've got.
