I have a 2005 Ranger 4x4 xlt with a 5 speed trans. When I put it in 4 wheel drive and low range going down hill after about 300 yards or so it wants to op out of low range. The gears grind and the drive train will shudder. Going uphill under a load it will not do this and it will not do it in 4 wheel high range. It just feels lie it wants to jump out of gear and or low range. Would appreciate any suggestions.

even if you press the clutch in while going down hill?

is this on a high traction surface?

My guess is that its like the old big 18wheelers that have so much gear reduction the start to jump on take. Same principle

How fast are you going downhill?
