Transfer case help

I have an 2002 Ford Ranger xlt 4x4. Some of my dash lights are broken so when i flip the switch it dont light up. I cant really tell a difference in 4 hi but in 4 lo i can feel the extra tug. I was at my friends house and it was kinda muddy and i had it in 4 lo and my front tires were in the mud and the back ones were on dry land. All my back tires did were spin and my front ones just stood still, not even a flinch. When i shift to and from 4 hi and lo i shift into neutral and then flip the switch then go in reverse and then forward. That last picture is the ABS pump.

The simplest thing for you to do is remove the shift motor and shift it with a pair of pliers. You'll see the index marks once the motor is off.

You can let the shift motor hang while you try it.

If it acts the same when shifted manually, your transfer case is bad.

how can a transfer case go bad?
