its been awhile since i've engaged the 4wheel drive...i know, shame on me but i don't have a lot of mud by me unfortunately.
anyway, in the winter i had some issues after i would go from 4h and then take it out to 2h it seemed like it was still engaged but would eventually disengage.
i had a 2000 ranger 4x4 but was just the xlt with the 3.0. beast truck i ever had.
this thing is a pain in the:pissedoff:.
i thought the fx4 was the Cadillac of rangers.

i know this is old school and the newer shift-on-the-fly shouldn't need to do this, but... i still stop when going back to 2wd and put it in reverse for 20-30 feet just to make sure the hubs are unlocked. just a thought.
