i have a m50d with a manual 1350 in my b2. i've noticed some whinning for a month or so, but i assumed it was the throw out bearing yelling at me. it drove fine last nite, both in 2wd from work, and then in 4x4 for some light wheeling. then this morning i pulled it outta the drive way and its making a bad clinking noise only while driving forward. def metal on metal sound. seems like its coming from the T case. could this be the chain? the t case has seen a hard life so far, but i was hoping i'd have it running for payette draw this weekend!

Do you have auto hubs?

Dose the sound change from 2wd to 4wd could also be the u joint if Ur lucky. Also check Ur oil in the t case

no i have manual hubs. and i wouldn't be surprised if i am low on fluid. i'll look into it tomorrow morning if i get this paper done.

i can get the chain at work (napa) for 50 bucks. but the labor to put it in is 380 through the tranny guy. thinking about trying it myself.

didn't see any helpful info on this, but is there a t case swap i should think about? maybe one with a slower crawl rate, or at least one i can change gears in?

so i wanted to see if my t case was low on fluid. and when i took out the FILL plug. about a quart and a half of fluid came out.....

sounds like i have a seal out that let water inside of the case. i'll be pulling it sunday and looking into it for damage and bad seals

The T-case chain doesn't MOVE (at all) in 2wd mode unless you are driving with your hubs locked.

It sounds more like either a bad bearing or a broken bearing retainer in the T-case.

And in any event for a combined price of $430 (chain plus labor) you can probably go to any junkyard (even one run by a world class tightass) and buy half a dozen 13-50 manual t-cases OR simply post in the "Wanted" forum and someone will sell you one.

Frankly if I actually HAD (I don't at the moment) a 13-50 t-case on hand I'd only look to sell it for ~$100-$125 because even selling it to someone desperate that's frankly all a 13-50 T-case is worth.

And frankly I wouldn't rebuild one for any price, if someone asked me to rebuild one I'd just get them a couple spares... the junkyards areound me are full of them, often laying on the ground under their donor OR laying (with a box of A4LD parts for company) in the back seat of a vehicle that someone took the dead A4LD out of then decided it was too expensive to fix

thats how i was looking at it! i think i'll tear it apart in any case tho. just so i can see how it all works. now i need to find a tcase!

looks like the lil pump that pushes fluid up to the main drive gear got clogged with junk. way to much water got in the T case.

looking for another, thinking about a doubler. IF i can talk the gf into it.

the little nipple that points forward on my 1350, is this just a breather? so maybe i need to hook a line to it and run it to the top of my cab so i don't have this issue again
