hi, replacing my trans in my 92 ranger w/ 2.3 manual trans. the trans x member is shot and so is the passenger side bracket (rotted) that is riveted to the frame. anywhere i can source these parts from? can't seem to find a listing anywhere, checked the ford parts finder sites, and others. the x-member may be salvagable, but the mount is done for. thanks in advance!

There are two kinds of cross members ... the one like you have with the brackets on the outside of the frame, and the one that bolts flat with the bottom of the frame. I had the one like yours, but I mangled it trying to get it off from all the rust, etc. To swap, all you need to do is cut/drill the rivets out, chuck the brackets in the trash, and bolt the new one in.

Go to a junkyard and look under a few manual explorers to see which cross member I'm talking about.

Edit: I believe the 90-94 manual explorers have this one.

thank you, but do you have the listing for the other style?

I don't think you can even get those "ears" (for lack of a better word) or bushings from the dealership. The explorer style x member is superior to that one in terms of ground clearance anyways.

I slotted/air-hammered the pass side rivets out yesterday, and I'm doing the driver's side today. If you want pictures, I can take a few as I do the other side and one of the new x member as well.

sure if its not extra work i would love to see the pics... as for my truck, made it work, temporarily, something is wrong w/ the shifter and/or linkage, shifting from 2nd to 3rd want to go back to 1st, takes effort to make go into 3rd, oh well, guess i am going back to the yard.

does anyone know where i can get rebuild parts for this transmission at??

You could probably order the parts if they are not discontinued...depending on what tranny it is...there were at least two different transmissions available but the most common and recommended would be the M5OD (4 speed with OverDrive) manual...

If you can't order and you want to rebuild you may need to get one from the junkyard...
