whats the best fit best economical fit and used most of the old parts i have a 1991 ranger 4.0 4x4 single cab

The Mazda M5od R-1 trans is the best and strongest manual trans for your 91 Ranger. I swapped one into my 89 Ranger and it's the best thing I ever did to the truck.

I have done 3 manual transmission swaps (auto to manual) for about $800 each.

I can't see how it can cost that much, you can buy a whole parts rig for $500, my tranny with only 20K on a rebuild was $250, add $100 to the price of a parts rig for a new slave and maybe another $150 if it needs a clutch you'll still have a lot of parts to sell off and profit.

if you can find a good parts truck. If not you have to buy a transmission. Two of the three I have bought have been out of '00+ trucks; one was out of a '03 with 20,000 miles.

I have to disagree with the previous statement about the m5od-r1 being the BEST trans for you....

The T-5 is THE BEST transmission that will bolt up to your 4.0L

A T-5 for a 2wd, yes. For a 4wd, a M50D is the best and easiest swap.

how much welding grinding and costom bracket making is there going to be

Ranger#1, " how much welding grinding and custom bracket making is there going to be". Answer, none. With a Mazda M5OD R-1 it's a direct bolt up to your 91 Ranger 4x4, to the engine and the transfer case. You also reuse the original drive shafts. On my 89 Ranger (which was an auto trans vehicle) everything was bolt in and I only needed the clutch pedal and clutch hydraulics and the floor plate and shifter boot.
