Trans Swap

Can anyone tell me if a 5 speed manual transmission from a 1988 Ranger, 2.9 eng., ext-cab, 4x4 will fit a 1984 Ranger, 2.9, reg. cab, 2 wheel drive? I'm thinking maybe a tail housing problem.

Yeah, it won't fit. The 4x4 has a transfer case on the back of it instead of the tapering tailstock that you need. The shafts are different lengths, so they cannot be swapped. Also, if the other one is from an extended cab the driveshafts are probably going to be different lengths.
