Trans swap?

Hi Guy's, I have a chance to pick up a really nice 89/90 Ranger excab dirt cheap. The auto trans is shot. What I need to know asap is, what trans is in it and any and all trans that will fit. Also if there is more that one that will work, which is the best/strongest?
It has a 2.9 motor and 2wd.

It has an A4LD. Your only trans options are another A4LD from another 2.9 or 4.0, or an M5OD manual trans from a 2.9 or 4.0. And it needs to be a 2wd trans. a 4wd trans won't work.
