If your going to do trans swap from an A4LD to anything pay attention to EVERYTHING! There are driveshaft issues, Transfercase shifter, Clutch / Flywheel, Flange(on the transfer case), computer and other yet to be discovered issues.
On my swap I figured I would get a donor BII same year w/ 5sp and that way I would have all the parts....ez enough just unbolt off one and bolt on to the other ...well.......nothing is that ez.
Since I had the 5 sp out I figured I would let a trans shop take a look at it......shoulda known....
..they found $800.00 worth of "stuff" ( It worked fine when I drove it home) so I told them to "stuff it"
Found a transmission shop that had a remanufactured 5 sp $600.00 thats $200 less than going the other way so I bought the reman.
Fast Forward....
Okay, got it all put back together......fired it up......BAD SOUND>>>SHUT IT DOWN Hmmmmm....gotta pull it and see what happened (good thing I didn't put the ex system or drive shaft back on).
Throwout Bearing "Grenaded" "What the Hell Happened"?
When I exchanged the trans I did not notice that my core had a "snout" or "quill" (it's what the throwout bearing slides on)
and the one I bought did not. No Snout = Grenaded Throwout Bearing

So what I have is a newer 5sp trans(requires an internal slave)- No Snout,
bolted to a older Bellhousing (external slave) with a external slave hydraulic system
Does any of this make sense?
So now I have to find a bellhousing for a 2.8 that will use an internal slave...anybody have any Idea how hard it will be to find?
I'm affraid i'm going to have to raise the flag on this one

Can I still use my master cylinder?
