Has anyone had any experience with transmission mounts in 2.8 manuals? I was replacing mine but the new Anchor 2639 mount’s bolts were spaced too far apart.

Looks like your new mount is a lot taller too (will effect driveline angle)

Well, I think it’s because the old mount has been pressed down over the last 35 years lol. But I will probably have to end up drilling.

That's somewhat possible but 83-85 trucks do have a shorter mount regardless. The mounts on newer trucks are supposedly different between 2wd and 4wd as well.

As an irritating side note, just about every Anchor mount I've used required hogging out the crossmember holes on one side or the other. Not very high quality parts but there are not many alternatives.

It seems to be a problem with several mounts, I’ve tried duralast, with the same problem and have two more brands on order that I don’t have much hope will be any different

Pretty sure Duralast and Anchor are the same thing, Autozone just puts them in a different box. NAPA would be the best bet for an alternative... or Ford... O'Reilly, Carquest and Advance all just sell the cheapest junk they can get their hands on.

Retaining my stock mount I had to hog out the crossmember when I swapped to an Explorer one.

Check your driveline angles after you get it in to make sure.

How do I check the angles? How much is too far off?

Angle finder either from a home improvement store. You can use the one on a smartphone too.

Generally if the pinion angle of the rear axle is tipped up say 5* you want the rear of the trans tipped down about the same. There is some wiggle room but you want them as close as you can.

There is A TON of tech info here if you haven't found it:

Update: Truck still chatters when decelerating and engaging clutch 🙄
