Well about 6 months ago i replaced the motor in my 98 ranger (3.0) the oil pump went south and i didn't see the need to replace it when it had 238,xxx on it ,and i could get a motor from the j/y for 350 with a 1 year warranty.
When i put the motor in i guess i didn't get the tc seated fully cuz after i bolted the motor to the trans i couldn't turn it over to put the bolts on the tc, when i crawled under it to inspect the problem i seen the flex plate was in the back of the oil pan preventing it from turning over. I then pulled the trans to inspect the damage and found the tc stuck to the input shaft. never seen this before so i got the tc and input shaft out of the trans and got one from the j/k cuz i didn't have much money what i was wondering is, is there a way to check the front pump with the trans out of the truck this is not my dd so i was not in a big hurry to fix it. what kind of damage dose this thing usually cause, what should i look four?

Well i just swapped the front pump from a known good trans i swapped bellhousing and all i also used the tc and input shaft that went with the front pump hopeing to prevent leaks due to the parts wearing together ... need some advice on flushing that trans i was going to change filter and pan gasket but herd this only get about half the fluid out i thank my trans is pretty much empty from pulling it apart but just didn't know what was the best way to flush the trans and tc

Ok well i put the trans back in about three weeks ago and when i went to put the tc nuts on the wouldn't reach the holes so my first thought was tc snout diameter was to large. So i pulled the trans again and found out the flex plate was bent due to me install the tc wrong the first time so i swapped out a good one a had at the house, reinstalled the trans everything went smooth till i tryed to start it just minutes ago it wont turn over the starter just flyes into the flex plate and clicks, I don't know what to do now I can turn the motor over by hand at the crank just fine. the battery is charged and the starter is new. ........please help me I need the truck up and running I go back to school on Monday and it will soon be to cold for my motorcycle.

Sorry for all the trouble you have had. I'm surprised nobody has helped you out or even commiserated with you.

The only suggestion I have is that the overrunning clutch is toasted on your starter. If that is your problem it's a fairly easy swap out. IIRC remove your starter and test by turning the teeth. One way should turn the motor[of the starter] and the other should turn freely.

It may also be the flexplate isn't correct for your application.

Good luck,

Richard

thank you ill try the starter the flex plate should be the correct one it came from the other 3.0 i pulled from the same truck

Well just swaped out the starter for a knowned good starter that was not it. Iam out of ideas.....

So you are getting a bunch of clicking when you try to start the engine? If the battery is fully charged, [should be about 12.6 volts or more] then you have to look at possible bad connections. Start at your battery and work your way along to the starter doing a voltage drop test, google is your friend.
good luck,

Richard
