i have a 94 super cab 4.0 with the crappy al4d, today it started giving me problems, it wont upshift unless i take my foot off the gas completely and then reapply throttle, like shifting a manual. the fluid is full, the modulator valve was changed about 6-8 months ago, any ideas what it can be or what i should check?

any tips on what to check would be great! would a vacuum leak cause this? :icon_confused:

yep a vacuum leak will cause this or a restricted vacuum line to modulator. Sometimes the vacuum port at the intake plugs up and restricts vacuum flow to modulator or the steel tube gets a hole in it. Put a vacuum gauge at the modulator hose and make sure you have vacuum there and that it rises and falls like a tachometer.

i did some more checking last night and this morning, its only having problems going from 1st to 2nd, and when i shift from drive to reverse or vice versa the volt meter drops alot, i was thinking it can be the 1st-2nd solenoid, but would that solenoid cause voltage drain when going from drive to reverse?

Doesnt have but 2 solenoids 3-4 shift solenoid and lockup solenoid.I would look at the possibility of shorted out backup lights they come on in reverse....the only other thing i could think of would be engine RPM's dropping down to far for the alternator or maybe even alternator week.

from what i have read on here from searching it seems like my governer is sticking, but that dont explain my voltage draw shifting gears. i definitely gotta check the back up lights since i had the bed off last week and may have pinched something, but that wouldnt cause 1-2 shift on accleration problems i dont think
