I think I know the answer to this question, but I will ask anyway. For the last few months my B2 has been hard to shift. Mainly from 1st to 2nd, but sometimes it will grind going into 4th as well.

Tranny shifts smooth as butter with engine off.

Clutch does not slip.

Slave or Master, right? How do I know which one?

Thanks:dunno:

Mine does the same thing!

94 Ranger 5 speed manual with 194K miles. Seems to be worse when it is cold. I changed the Mercon and it didn't help. Had a new clutch about 4 years ago and they replaced the shifter build plugs at that time to prevent it from leaking.

With the motor idling and the clutch in, can you shift it between all gears easily?

If so, it's probably not the clutch disengagement.

Low/Wrong fluid and or synchros.
