trans gears

hello every one.
can you take the four banger gears from the 5 speed ranger and put in a 3.0 trans? my plan was to lower the gears in tran to make up diffs for tire size.. right now my trucks gort 4.10 and 33s it feels stock. i wnna go 35 s and change out tran gears. will this work? thanks mike

You seriously want to take gears from a manual trans & think you can put them into an automatic? have you ever seen the insides of either transmissions? The answer is no, they are completely different, If you want to do a gear change due to tire size your going to need to re-gear the axle, or both front & rear axles if your 4wd.

Where in his post did he say he has an automatic? all he said was "3.0 trans" NO WHERE, in his post does it say automatic. What i think he's asking is can he take the gears from a 5 speed 4 banger, and put them into a 5 speed 3.0, the answer is yes. will it make a big difference? probably not. Read before you post.

You are correct I did misread his post. I was not thinking manual to manual swap, Have to find out ratios on both gear sets to see if that would be beneficial.

Swapping the gears out won't make the difference that you want. Your best bet is to change the rear-end gears.

thanks. so are the gear ratio the same in 4 banger to 3.0 trans? and what gears would go best with 35?
