1989 4x4 xlt 2.9 auto (al4d)> noticed trans fluid low (no leaks on driveway). as I added fluid it ran to driveway,I looked underneath and found the filler tube was disconnected from tube going into trans.I couldn't get it to stay in place. Need advice please asap. Thanks

Two things.

If memory serves, there will be an o-ring that seals the tube into the transmissions tube.

There should also be a bracket at the upper 2/3 of the tube that came out. That bracket is for a mounting bolt that goes into the rear of the cylinder head. If that bracket is not in place? That will kick the tube out pretty quick. It's a tight fit if you have A/C...but you should be able to reach behind that cylinder head and feel the bracket and bolt. If it's not there? I'd say that's a problem.

If you find after inspecting it that it's damaged, I have a spare one from an 89 4X4 Ranger that you can have.:icon_thumby:

Thanks for the replies men,I replaced the o ring and reseated in the trans all is well now.The bracket was okay. Thanks for the offer of the spare, that's most considerate. Now its running bad again always something. Up jumps the devil.
