i am having alot of trouble finding an a4ld for my 87 2.9 4x4 ranger.i found one that is in a 2 wheel drive, will it work ? or is there another tranny that i can use ?

No and no. Has to be 85 to 87 4x4 with 2.9 L engine. The trans has to be completely disassembled to convert 4x2 to 4x4.

Hello

85-94 2.9 and 4.0l 4X4 or AWD transmission and rebuilt your 87 VB with a shift correction kit and install.

I used a 94 4.0l AWD Areostar transmission with the 85 VB in my 85 B2. It shift great and no problems.

But even better goto a five speed.

Any 4x4 tranny from a 2.8,2.9 or 4.0 will work(all 3 are the same class engine and have the same engine to tranny bolt pattern). The only thing is the trannys are different lengths so driveshafts would be different lengths also.

To swap in a manual you will need the pedal assembly, clutch master and slave cylinders and the computer from the manual donor.

No. There are electrical differances between the 85-87 and the 88-94.
