my 5 speed mtx out of my 83 is on its last leg... i found a replacement from an 87 ranger...

correct me if im wrong but it appeared to be a different trans and trnsfr case...

will this new one bolt up? what extra parts will i need? i have not bouught yet so your feedback is needed thanks

an '87 can have either an FM145 or a TK5 trans.

Your truck currently has a TK5.

the trans IS different, if it's an FM145 (steel bottom cover)
you probably don't want it.

if OTOH it has a finned aluminum bottom cover like your original transmission
you can adapt it to your truck in either of two ways...

One is swap your bellhousing/clutch system/ front bearing retainer
onto the new trans, OR adapt your truck to the later system, which will require the 1985-87 type slave cylinder and clutch line (the master cylinder is the same)
