tranny stuck in first

Ok now I got it.
That piece of information means you are getting 1st gear and another gear at the same time.
With two gears engaged at the same time, the output shaft cannot turn, so the engine stalls.
Same principle (two gears at the same time) is used for auto trannys at the drag strip for torque converter lockup of course, that's under control with a tansmission modification.

This was mentioned on page 1, thanks for the help tho.

Must be an echo, I believe I said that at 12:57 this afternoon

I'd recommend pulling the little plastic cup out of the tailshaft housing and seeing what interesting bits can be found behind it...

that echo was a quote, somehow i got it mixed in with my email probably, there is a little toother rubber piece that slide up and down the splined portion of hte tail shaft. is that what your referring too? its clean as a whistle and slides smoothly on its own (with the tranny upright) doesnt bind or nuthing like (if there was shards or grit underneath it would bind and not slide easily right?)

No, Allen and I just talk alike.

Froggy, you tried shifting the transmission and found that you could not shift the rear one right?

with the trans mission standing on the bellhousing, and the opening facing away from me,(leaning over it actually) i cannot shift the bottom ring upwards, it will slide down. which i believe is second, but wont shift upwards(with all covers off moving by hand)

with everything assembled I couldnt get it in any gear except 1 in ten tries, then it would go in any gear but first, and it always stalled except when the shifter was in neutral, in which case it ran like it was in first.:dntknw:

sounds like the keys are jammed or broke and locked up in the 1-2 syncro hub then, which would mean it has to come totally apart

No I meant the little plastic CUP (and I should have used the word FUNNEL) that is in the tailshaft HOUSING.

It feeds oil inside the countershaft to supply the 5th-Rev "float" bearings

That area is built as a "Trap" to capture debris to prevent it from getting to where it'll do serious harm..

That splined rubber piece on the tailshaft?
It is a factory assembly aid.
It keeps the sharp edges of the splines from notching the seal.
