was runnin my 4wd in my b2, started gettin a smell (weird smell), then smoke, got slight valve cover leak but not enuff for this much smoke, crawled under and looks like the smoke was comin from my tranny/transfer case, went to go home and lost major power, smoke only got worse, engine seems to run fine but truck has issues pullin itself down the road. so here are my questions
87 b2 2.9 v6 fi
5 spd man
is transfer case electric or vacuum operated?
chain drive?
anyone else have this issue?
what size disc does the clutch use?
anything will help, if there are any posts already covering, tell me where, i am already lookin and tearing this beast apart at the same time, this is my dd so i got to get it back together asap, thanks in advance

do you get any noise from the drive train while its idling, driving? sound like a bad bearing some where, if the engine bogs down while driving.

Electric shift t-case, I'm assuming you'd know if it was manual

Chain drive

I've never had this issue myself

clutch disc for a 2.9 is 8 2/3".

What were the surface conditions you were driving in? Road, mud, rocks?

thanks, ive got the manual hubs and shift 4wd, my dad says 99% sure its clutch, the engine itself didnt bog, just lost power to the ground, i picked it up for $900, got tickets for almost $2000 dollars worth of parts put on in last 3months, the clutch wasnt one of them, 126,xxx original miles, so its worth $100 or so in parts to replace it, i was driving down the trail in my dads woods, nothing serious, maybe just coincidence, i did get my 31/10.50's on with no lift and very minor trimming tho, if its clutch, be back on/offroad, by wed. thanks again for the info guys

spend the extra $$ and do the 4.0 clutch conversion. You won't regret it.

Put a new slave cylinder in while you have it apart and a flywheel unless you like wrenching.
