I need to replace the tranny in my 93 2.3 2wd.
It's ID #F27A - UA
Bear with me because I'm new at this. Looking it up I see that it's a M5OD - R1
My question is... How can I tell from looking at the ID # whether it will fit or not? I see this tranny is used in quite a few vehicles with different engines and with 4wd... will any M5OD R1 fit? Will I have to make alterations?

You need another tranny from another 2000 or older 4 cylinder Ranger.

that is missing info... There is only one transmission that will bolt right in for you, it is ANY 5-speed 2wd tranny behind a 2.3L engine from 1990 till mid year 01. It cannot be from behind any v6, ONLY from behind the 2.3L from 90-01. Also unless you want to get a transfercase and a different rear driveshaft you will want to find one that is 2wd.
