Are there any transmitions that are interchangeable with the 2.3 and the 4.0? thanks

2.9 is interchangeable with the 4.0 (slightly different ratios though). You don't want to even touch a 2.9L one though unless it's the M5OD (of which the 4x4 versions are rare).
