My tranny on my 93 (2.3 5-speed) is making a winning noise at idle. If I move the shifter L to R it changes pitch. If I push in the clutch it stops. It also makes the sound driving but not in 4th or 5th gear. What could it be:dunno: Thanks

I did'nt know a tranny was not supposed to sound like that.:icon_rofl:

Just hope its only your throwout bearing thats going bye bye, or it could be the pilot bearing. How many miles?

The clutch and bearing have 1800 miles if that on them.

Well that only leaves one of two things. Check the fluid for particles of metal by draining it then and top it off with new. If that does not quiet it down, you may be needing a tranny soon, and with a new clutch I would say drive it till it dies. That or a louder stereo to hide the noise!

Sounds like a bad throw out barring. I had the same problem in my 97 ranger I had. Cost me $900 to have everything fixed.

It does sound like the throwout bearing. Just cuz it's new doesn't mean it's not bad... I have seen brand new ones out of the box that are bad.

Fluid is full and clean. I was lazy and had a shop put the clutch in it so I will see what they can do for me. Thanks for the help.
