you want to replace the clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and slave cylinder (usually TO bearing and slave come together). you'll also want to have the flywheel dressed.

getting to the clutch is a pain....do it right the first time so you wont have to do it again for another 130k.

Hello, I am new to this site so, please forgive me for posting in the wrong place if I did. I just seen the MDO5 and I think this where I ask Q's about it.

I found it when I was looking for answers to my tranny problems. Mainly how to gravity bleed. What happened was my tranny was making a really loud grinding noise. I was told that I needed to replace my throw out berring. Well, I went and bought a clutch kit and while I had the tranny out I had my flywheel dressed. Put it all back together and it all worked for about 2 weeks and the grinding noise came back and I got stuck in 3rd gear.

I was told at that point I had to replace my clutch master cylinder. So I did and when I went to bleed it again, I found that my hydrolic line was leaking at the plug. So, I went and baught a new one and in the process of bleeding I found at the last few steps of depressing the cluth slowly for 2 seconds and then letting up on it fast that I have a leak coming from the bell housing. I asked Q's again and was told my slave cylinder is bad. I am frustrated and confused. I love my 89 Ranger and don't want to get rid of it. So, any suggestions would be great. I want to fix it and replace anything that might be a problem later so I don't have to pull the tranny again. I think pulling it 2 times is more than enough.

Oh, and this is my very first time working on a tranny. I loved every minute of it and followed directions step by step. However, the only time I have to work on it is on holidays and Sundays. :icon_pepsi::beer::icon_twisted:

if there is brake fluid coming from the bellhousing then you definitely have a bad slave cylinder. this is why i always recommend to replace EVERYTHING in the bellhousing...pulling the tranny isnt worth the few bucks you might save by leaving old parts in there.

sounds like youve already replaced everything clutch related except the slave cylinder. after you get it in there, it should be good for a while.

As for how to gravity bleed, my advice is to take your Haynes book and rip that section out.

You bleed clutches JUST like brakes. The only issue is that you have to position a new master just right (NOT bolted to the firewall) so it won't trap an air bubble in there.
The rest is traditional brake bleeding. Gravity bleeding is a waste of time, and vacuum bleeding is a huge waste of time. Pressure bleeding works, but you're not likely to have the appropriate equipment at home.

I am just putting the Truck in storage for the winter. I will NOT have time to work on it at all. But, just so I can have a running Ford in my driveway, I went out and baught an 85 B2 from my boss. Thank you all for your help.
