i want to do a tranny flush and a filter change.... which should i do first?

i was thinkiing of getting the power flush, then dropping the pan and changing out the filter along with doing a shift kit

is this the correct way?

i plan on doing all 3, my truck could benefit from it.....

i have a 98 ford ranger 2wd, 3.0l, with the "T" tranny, which i believe is a 4r44e

We flush, drain the pan, replace the filter and refill. Our flush machine has an option of draining the pan into a jug so you don't waste fluid. Even if you do....you should only need about 4L of fluid to refill it.

what do you mean we?

i dont have a power flush machine, so i will be doing the filter and shift kit myself, and taking it somewhere to get power flushed.... does it matter which one i do first?

Yes...sorry I meant the dealership I work at.

Well then get it flushed....then drop the pan and do everything you need to do. Top it back up with fresh stuff when you're done.

ah ok, so flush first, then pan drop with chift kit and top off....

is your dealership using merc v? i want to run 5 as it is just superior to other versions, but i have found a lot of places that do the power flushes are using a merc iii/dexron generic

Use mercon V in it....ford did away with mercon all together.

i plan to use mercon v in it, or find a synthetic to use, possibly like amsoil or something along those lines

on another site i belong to, someone posted a link to a writeup on how to power flush it yourself, with 15 qts of fresh fluid.... looks like i may attempt doing it myself.....

which shift kit is the best for the 4r44e?

also, i remember using an additive a long time ago recommended on explorer forum, about lubraguard? i think that was what it was called.... was pretty much supposed to bring merc 3 up to merc 5 standards.... i might use that again, just for an extra bit of protection... anyone else heard of it? it was a small bottle i think, and like $25 here it is: http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-113/LUBEGARD+Platinum+Universal+ATF+Protectant

I see no need for additives...you're already going to be using a good ATF so why bother?
