I used a universial towing one - the biggest I could find with old my A4LD and never had any problems with it.

Looking to upgrade to a new cooler with an electric fan soon for my AOD..

I'm running a Flex-a-lite 4126 heavy duty cooler in my 91 with the a4ld.

Its 10"x20"x3/4". Most autoparts stores should be able to get one of those.

Its been fine.

As far as I know it is the original 1991 A4LD, I've owned it and wheeled it for 7 years now. 5 years ago I installed a TransGo shift kit, and done regular once a year trans fluid changes. I added the extra cooler (kept it routed through the cooler in the rad and removed the factory external cooler) 3 years ago. I've never burnt the fluid in it or had water in it since I've owned it and never had excessive friction material in the pan. The bigger cooler was just extra insurance for me. This transmission has been turning 35 or larger tires for the last 5 years without complaint.

Guess I got the one good A4LD.

No, you just maintained it properly and have taken good care of it. Mine has also been 100% trouble free. A4LDs rule.
