Hey guys, Im pulling the tranny out of my explorer, my first time pulling a tranny, and from what i gather from the manual is that you gain access to the top two transmission-to-engine bolts by allowing the drivetrain to "tilt" after removal of the crossmember and tranny mount? Is this correct? I would have thought this would be harful to the engine mounts.

Thanks, Cody.

You won't be able to tilt the engine far back enough to rip the engine mounts apart, unless they are already marginal. However, THE thing to watch for is not to rest the engine on the electricals near the back of the intake manifold.

You don't need that much tilting. Once you can see the bolts from behind the transfer case flange or rear seal, you're good to go.

Oh ok I wasnt actually sure how much it would tilt before i could see the bolts, i was just curious. Thanks MAKG

I always found some long extensions handy as well as a universal. If you have access to power tools you'll be in like flint, if not you'll still be fine going a few clicks at a time. The engine mounts will flex pretty good, you'll be fine.
