Can a person buy a 2-5/16 trailer ball with a 3/4 shank? I cannot find one in town or online anywhere.

Reason I ask is because my new Ranger has a 1-1/4 receiver, and the insert I have for it has a 3/4 hole. So as far as I can tell I am limited to 1-7/8 and 2" balls.

I'm not trying to tow anything huge - my buddy has a small 4x8 utility trailer that I borrow all the time. It just happened to be set up for 2-5/16. I would like to be able to tow it with my small truck occasionally to save on gas.

You can just convert your buddies trailer to a 2" ball. A new coupler is cheap and easy. I doubt you'll find a 2 5/16" on that small shank.

1) Why would his little trailer be 2 & 5/16", unless its custom? Get it converted to 2" ball and it would be much easier.
2) I suggest getting a 2" receiver for your pickup, its the most common size and you are morel likely to find parts/accessories for it... plus its stronger.

I kinda figured that... I spent literally another two hours looking online and couldn't find one.

His trailer has the 2-5/16 hitch because that is what his other trailers have. I guess he wanted to just have one size ball. I understand his reasoning, he just does some weird stuff sometimes.

I briefly considered upgrading to a 2" receiver, but I don't think I will. Reason being, anything that's too heavy for a 1-1/4 receiver is also too heavy for a 4cyl Ranger. That's what I have my F150 for anyway.

i've hauled a 6k pound 16 foot flatbed with a huge plywood box on it with an 88 4 banger on the bumper.

nothing is too big for a 4 cylinder ranger, go 2 inch :)

x10 on the 2" reciever, theres other options for it besides trailers. Hitch mounted winches. I have a threeway ball made from solid stock 2" from advanced that I use as a tow point. The front of my truck has a 2" reciever and my tow strap is mounted to it all the time. (why the back of the truck dont have one I dont know, i bought it that way) But cargo racks are built for the 2" and lots of other options.

I have 2" on both of my trucks. They came with them, I didn't put them on. I wouldn't have it any other way, I have three receivers that will work on both trucks, 2", 2-5/16", and one with no ball for a pin hitch/chain clevis.

I think years and years ago my dad had a 2-5/16 by 3/4 ball for towing something very similar to what you are talking about. He lost it a long time ago and I think it was custom made for him by a guy he knew. If I had a proper lathe I could make one, but I don't.
