Well I'm on the fence about this. I have a 1996 Toyota 4runner that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I've owned 3 Rangers, 2 B2s, and 2 Explorers in the past. I have a guy who wants to trade his 2001 Ranger for my 4runner. I recently put a lot of work into the 4runner (3" lift, 33's, rear e-locker, etc) however, but I'm not crazy about the ride with the lift, and I went a size too big on the tires now i"m rubbing and getting terrible gas mileage (12mpg). Not to mention I am needing a truck again as our family does fixer-upper houses.

Here's the link to his craigslist ad: http://tucson.craigslist.org/cto/2783493276.html

He's willing to throw a pitbike in on the trade too (which i would likely sell)

His KBB is about 1k better than mine...

Please help me make my decision :) I hated the 3.0 i had in the previous ranger.....but 4.0s are easy enough to find i suppose...

I think your 4runner is worth more than a $4k ranger. Its not to me...but everyone else because they think they are so great and wonderful. I would suggest selling separately and buying the truck YOU want. If you didn't like the 3.0 (Ranger) before you're not going to like it now and probably will regret it. And my friend had a '99 4runner, 33's, auto, and about 14mpg! I made in fun of him because my full size diesel gets 17-18mpg.

Good luck with whatever you decide.:icon_thumby:

I don't know why he thinks his ranger is a rare truck for the year.

I would pass. Sell the 4runner and you could probably find a lower mileage 4.0 for around the same price or a little more

Thanks gentlemen, I'm gonna keep the 4Runner and wheel the piss outta her. School's done in May, will be looking for a newer 4.0 Ranger then!

I didn't find too much wrong with the 3.0L in my ranger... Its not any more powerful then the 4.0L (doesn't feel like it atleast to me)

But yeah I would pass, that ranger is like what I want with the newer body style and color but it looks lifted somehow...

If you found you went to far on your dd, cut your losses and back up.

I think I found a sucker to buy my 32's on my F-150, the stupid looking little OEM sized tires are going back on in the interest of milage, towing and drivability.

I dont know how your getting 12 to the gallon my buddies 974runner is getting like 16 and its on a 3inch old man emu with a 2 inch body on 33's! I love the 4runners but I would never trade him for my BII.. I say hold on to it and sell it this summer when some kid will be looking for a car that can go off road with way too much money in his pocket! Then buy the ranger you want!

I agree too. Plus every little thing that you dont like about the truck you will feel regret for trading in the first place.

Very true (I've done that before!). I have the 3" Old Man Emu lift, 33" treadwrights and the best mileage i can pull is 14.5hwy. I'm going to do the Intake silencer removal mod and cherry bomb the exhuast to see if i cant get her up to 16.

Part of the reason I wanted to initally trade was I miss this forum/community. I grew up in a Chevy family but always owned Fords...weird how that works :D
