Does anyone know if traction bars work, got 98 4x4 that loses traction when I go around corners and fast starts in rain, will it be an easy install? Will it do anything more than if I put 200lbs or weight in the back? Any and all recomendations would help, Thanks

I meant Traction Bars

But I bet more people will read this just to see what I am asking about.:headbang:

traction bars prevent the leaf springs from wrapping which causes wheel hop, traction bars dont nessesarly give you traction, they just prevent axle wrap.

Exactly, so maybe you should let off the gas pedal around turns, or add a sandbag or body of an ex girlfriend or two to the bed, to get some weight over your tires.

So what I am hearing is that just some weight to the back, and I probably wont let off in the corners, and I would use the ex-girl friends bodies if I remembered where I buried them, thanks guys...

yeah adding some wieght over the rear will help too, but then you got to lug around more wieght which might cut down on mpg. lighter your truck is the better the fuel milage.

Traction bars only add traction by getting a tire to stay on the round instead of bouncing

Remember a tire that is in mid air isn't generating any traction at all.

Besides axle hop breaks things.

They looks like an alright idea. And for 100 bucks from James Duff they don't look that expensive' I'm interested to hear a little more about these.

So What am I looking at Here?

Okey, so I am trying to understand, will Traction Bars help or are they a waste of money?I haven't gone off-road and probably won't anytime soon, I just want something to help hold my rear end down. And by the way the traction bars are on ebay...for like $50 plus $25 shipping so its not real expensive.:icon_confused:

No they wont help. unless you have a wheel hop problem which it doesnt sound like you do so i wouldnt buy them if i were you.

Alright, I guess I will slow down round the corners...and throw some weight in the rear.:icon_rofl:

The real bitch of it is that when you add a limited slip and put some weight in the back then you'll feel the wheel hop and decide you need the traction bars...

I have traction bars on my truck
Frankly I'll put another set on every other ranger I ever own.

A nice cheap, economical choice would be the James Duff bars. The ones that bolt to the Ubolts above the axle and springs. I really really do enjoy them as I noticed an immediate improvement when I installed them, and notice an immediate difference when I remove them. With them off, when I was still open diff, I would be spinning tires and not even know it. With them on, they just let the tires grip the ground and when they slip, they'll let you know it. lol. idk...hard to describe.

They only run about $100, and it's one of the best $100 you can spend.

Right now I'm looking into doing a ladder bar type traction aide. Being locked and with sloppy leafs really really sucks. lol.
