Towing holiday trailers with my 3.0 3.73 Ranger?

I am looking into buying a little holiday trailer with my Ranger. I tried a few years ago to put a little 15' foot trailer a few years ago but my little girl had some troubles with wind resistance ont he highway. Also I notice that pulling our 3000 pound MasterCraft on a tandem trailer was a little hard on her. (Just a pull to car wash intown).

Here is my set-up:

2001 Edge Regular Cab 2wd
3.0 without mods
31" tires
5 speed manual
3.73 LS

Anybody with a similar set-up pulling trailers? What size and weight should I stick to? Any suggestions? I am conidering those little Boler's or Trillium's.

(I did start this thread in the 3.0 forum, but it belongs here)

I had a Casita 16' for a number of years. We pulled it behind a 4-cylinder Mazda pickup. Very good shape for towing with a little truck. The wind resistance was not a problem even with 120hp with an auto. I also used my 4.0 Ranger--which was a 5-speed and 3.55s stock and later 4.10s on 31s.

A big trailer is too much, like you said, because of the wind, not the weight. This is really blurry but it's my dad's motorcycle trailer--hold 4 big cruiser bikes and is 7' tall inside. Empty, it was no problem until I got on the highway and the wind started working on us. The Casita is such a great little trailer. I only got rid of it because of kids--too many.

Get a 4.0L, having a 3.0L is like owning a chevy, all it can do is try to look good

LOL! :) I no longer ever make the wrong decision with engine choices. Every time I buy now- I take all the engine I can get.

Problem solved- just bought a Superduty F350. Dont worry I am keeping Betty (my ranger) as a daily driver.
