I am the proud owner of a new 2008 Ford Ranger XL SuperCab. I bought the 2.3 liter 4 banger with 5 speed automatic overdrive, tilt/cruise, and air. I already have put on a chrome grille, nerf bars steps, Truxport rear bed cover, bed extender, stone guards, K&N filter, etc. on it.
The charts show my truck to be limited to 5500 lbs gross weight with the automatic transmission and I know I can load up to 1260 lbs in the bed. What weight could I expected to be able to tow with this truck? I know it is just the little engine, but I would expect I could tow some lighter load??? I can't find anything about this. Also are there any bolt-on parts to increase horsepower/torque on this engine. Are there any decent chips that will really add some horsepower/torque to this engine without voiding the warranty? Thanks from the Newby :-)

the 5500lb number is the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). this is the maximum weight your truck, with all gear and driver, plus the loaded trailer can weigh. to get the maximum trailer weight rating, you subtract your trucks weight from that number, or around 2200lbs in your case.

I hauled a jetski around and a small trailer with my 96 2.3L, so i would imagine you can do similar if not more then that. gratz on the new ranger!!
