Hey all,

So some friends and I are starting to plan a summer trip to silverlake so bomb around the dunes and whatnot. What I was wondering was would my truck (97 3.0 4x4 w/ class 3 hitch) be able to tow my baja bug(~1600lbs) on a car trailer? I've flat towed it and used a dolly before but going from cincinnati to michigan I'd like to put it on a trailer. Is it advisable? or should I go find a full size pickup? Thanks for the help

Roughly 180 miles across the LP of Michigan, with a 2.3L in the middle of the night.

Unless your trailer is uber huge/heavy, your baja bug should be fine.

I also have towed my 18' trailer behind my Ranger. It looks ridiculous, but it's well within the weight ratings. The lowest for Rangers is still around 2,500 lbs.

FWIW, we've towed a Honda on a Uhaul dolly further than that, without any issues, but YMMV.
