Yeah, with the hitch being directly mounted to the body that's expected. You also have a rear hatch that can be letting some additional noise in that you wouldn't have with a truck. As long as you distribute your load correctly, I wouldn't worry about a thing, with the suspension or the unibody...
 
I think unibody has advanced in modern times, which is why they can make things like giant vans out of em now. They always seemed ok to me, just didn't take a crunching well. They just didn't repair the same as separate sheet metal body. But then again same goes for a bent frame, rare to get em perfect again.

I mean to be fair jeeps been building unibody SUVs since the XJ came out in what...84? So i guess if anyone knows it would be them.

...I do notive alot of noise though coming from the hitch area...i heard this is normal when unibody towing as theres no rubber mounts to isolate?

That is a thing with unibody vehicles. For me, it was more of the draw bar moving around in the receiver. You can get an attachment with thumb screws that will snug the draw bar up better for less noise but it isn't perfect.

They build crush zones in the unibody so the occupants absorb less of the impact forces. It's a catch 22. The crash is easier on the occupants but the repair is more extensive, assuming the vehicle doesn't get totaled. There is also a chance the vehicle will never be quite right after the repair. I'll take less damage to the people over the vehicle any day but it doesn't help fill the gap if the vehicle in question was a favorite.

It seems generally a good wreck will make anything "not quite the same" afterwards.

one thing ive wondered about unibodies though is, in a wreck lets say you get asspacked and rear end the guy infront if you...a frame should stay about the same for integrity but would a unibody accordian?
 
They accordion as intended, its un-accordion-ing em is the sketchy part. Probably why they get salvaged out a lot. At my buddy's body shop, I seen some cars that didn't look that bad, but were deemed salvage.

I know a guy that put a newish (like 15+)F150 into a swamp, didnt put a scratch on it but the water got into the ECM and they tottalled it

That’s a shame. But probably not a bad idea. The water probably got into a lot of other electronic items. There are so many things controlled by microprocessors these days, it’s ridiculous. It would probably have electronic gremlins forever.
 
yea water is hell on newer vehicles.

Old truck just drag it out, park it with the doors open for a few days and keep on truckin lol
