Tow Pig / Daily Driver Build

I upgraded my fuel/water separator with a Stanadyne FM100 Fuel/Water Separator. This is nice because it has a clear water bowl on the bottom. It doesn't show it in the link, but it comes with one.

I also used the Stanadyne 100 Watt side load heater. It comes on when the fuel is less than 45* and goes off once it reaches 50*.

I am working on a plate to cover the bottom of the filters. It will have a small access for the water drain.

The only thing I can't figure out is when I put the fuel in the filter it goes straight into the bowl. I would assume it is supposed to just be the water in the bowl.

Maurice , the truck is looking really good , but on a side not you are giving me way too many ideas for my 97 haha , it's bad enough i just dropped $1200 for parts (Pypes turbo back exhaust , Tony Wildman TS Chip , Glowshift gauges and pod , new driver side manifold and oil cooler seals) , but in the long run i have had the truck for 2 years and barely done anything with it , i like the water pump idea and am kind of curious about the HPOP crossover line you installed. Keep up the good work , you got a real nice truck there

No it doesnt. It has a 50 TTB. Look closer.

edit: yea the x-over line is a slick mod for the 7.3, and well worth the 50$.

yea , i took a closer look and see that my eyes decieved me , and where do i get the crossover line ?

try riffraff, or xdp, or dieselsite, they are all good vendors.

Yup, I still have the 50; for now.

I got my crossover line from Strictly Diesel.

Just make sure you watch the o-rings. If the fittings start leaking, fix it ASAP. If they don't get fixed and one blows apart, the fire you will have from the oil spewing all over the hot turbo will be a bad thing.

What water pump are you talking about?

I have been looking at an oil by-pass filter setup and a coolant filter setup. For the price of the coolant filter setup I have been looking at I can get an International DT444E water pump that has a spot for a coolant filter on it. The water pump is out of the smaller International trucks that used the 7.3 in them. I don't know why Ford didn't go that same route with the water pump.

that is the pump i am talking about , and thanks for the heads up on the o-rings

Ah, doh! :icon_twisted:

I check mine on a weekly basis. I a little anal on things I guess.

I did the new tire mod today. It really sucked dropping the $1,100 on tires. I guess if it needs it though.

and if you ever plan on doing an injector upgrade i would suggest Rosewood Diesel in Ohio , they charge $500 to use your injectors and upgrade them to a Stage 1 , their Stage 1 is 160cc vs 140cc for Beans , Swamps , etc. I am sending mine there next week.

Rosewood is who I will be using whenever I need/want injectors. I am going to wait to upgrade them until they are needed.

I have been having a little problem with my fuel system the last couple of weeks. It hasn't been wanting start the fuel pump. Saturday morning when I was starting my truck to leave work, the fuel pressure never came up. I popped the hood and flicked the relay in the dark. After flicking the relay, the pressure came up and the pump came on.

Fast forward to today, I decide to check out the problem since I have to drive it to work tomorrow (haven't driven the truck since Saturday morning). Below is what I found.

The relay was no where near a heat source. I think it was just cheap Chinese junk. I put in a Motorcraft relay out of the old fuse/relay box I got and it works like a dream now!

I found a little modification on the diesel forums that increased the fuel pressure up to 70PSI and smooth out the idle and performance of the truck.

I removed this out of the fuel bowl.

I put in a zinc plated BB in below the spring.

Once I put this back into the fuel bowl, I got this PSI on my gauge. (bounced between 50-70PSI)

It seems to idle a little better now. I haven't driven it yet, but I would imagine it will run better as well.

where in the hell is this little guy in the fuel bowl , because i have the filter out and for the life of me cant find where that thing is

There is a large brass nut right above the schrader valve. Pull that nut off and it is in there.

Diesel (oil) floats on top of water, but until you get water in your system, you won't see any water in that bowl. And unless you tend to get poor fuel, it should take you awhile to accumulate much of any in the system.

This thread is still making me miss my old 250, please keep up with the photos and progress as its nice to see people take care of these truck instead of 'bro-ing' them out. :icon_thumby:
