Hey guy's
i have a 2008 ford ranger XL 4x4
truck came without Front tow hooks

i looked underneath the truck they have the OEM tow hook holes there
but problem the dealership wants over 100$ for the hooks
so i went over to princess auto and got some 10,000lbs recovery hooks

but i have no idea where to mount them :dunno:

i need help or recommendation on were to mount the front hooks thank you

I would have just gone to a junkyard and snagged some stock ones.

I'm sure you can mount aftermarket ones, it just might take a bit of fab work to make them work out right, the way they did things with the bumper and all makes it a little more complicated. I know I looked into it once before and figured out what needed to be done, but that was a couple years ago when I was considering doing it to a 2wd. Now I'd have to go look at the whole stock setup again and since it's raining here, maybe someone else will chime in, lol

You already have the factory stock mounting holes. You can't use them??

Not for aftermarket hooks, the way the holes are, the hooks will not mount right using the factory holes.

i guess i'll go try and find some in a junkyard,

also quick question
how strong are those OEM front tow hooks on ranger
good enough for some tugging? etc

Good enough for some tugging. Just don't do like the one dude on YouTube did and floor it in reverse trying to yank out a high-centered fullsize chevy. Ripped the front bumper and all right off his truck so he did.

If you have to pull someone out, you're far better off using a Class 3 tow hitch in the back. Plus your forward gears are better for pulling than reverse. But those hooks in the front will be good for pulling you out if you get stuck or whatnot.

ok thats good,
oh no worries i would never yank someone out using front haha
i have a class 4 tow shackle in the back for that :P
but thats good to know do you know which years used the same front tow hook, side to side bolts etc?

I have a pair I am trying to sell. Problem is the cost of shipping is about as much as new ones from the dealer.

I'm not really sure, I know 98-01 Rangers had the same front bumpers, 01-03 had the same bumpers and 03-12 had the same bumpers. I have never gotten to closely examine anything newer than a 2000 with tow hooks, although I see no reason why they should have changed them from 98 and up.

Give Gautreau's or Bastarache a call, they should have a set on hand. Gautreaus would likely be the less expensive of the 2.
