tough getting into gears

Hello,

I have a 2001 ford ranger 5 speed 116k miles. It has always been a bit difficult getting it into gears ( especially when cold). By that I mean , it is obvious it's not syncronized. I just had a master and slave clutch cylinder put in due to leak. Since this is hydraulic clutch there is no need to adjust clucth pedal. Sometimes the clutch is higher and at times a bit lower.

The problem is It is at times ( especially when cold) difficult getting into gears. I have to take foot off clutch then press down again to engage. When it is idliing with clutch depressed the rpm's drop.

Could this be due to the line not being bled for air or is it something else.

If you've had the master and slave replaced, I'd definitely look for air in the line as the cause. It's an easy system to bleed - just run a hose from the bleed valve UP to a reservoir and immerse the end, then open the valve and leave it open. Cycle the pedal for a few minutes, then close the valve. If that does not solve the problem, you'll have to remove the master cylinder from the firewall and flip it upside down (still connected to the hydraulics) to allow the air that gets trapped at its' base to purge into the line to the slave.
