anyone use one? my ol' dell desktop's gettin' tired, or rather I'm gettin' tired of it. anyway my pops suggested toshiba, he said they're a bit cheaper than a comparable dell.

They are cheaper and quite nice for the price same computer without the big computer name. Dell, gateway, HP, etc. My father has one but it is no match to my Alienware.

I've had 7 Toshibas.

All but 1 have been great.

The 1 was during the period when Toshiba was outsourcing their computers.

It was pretty sucky. But the last 3 have been problem free.

I have a Tecra M9 now.

Oh, BTW, Toshibas are what is issued by my company, which is why I still have one after getting the loser.

Just please don't get a dell. Alot of dell laptops over the past several years had bad heat issues. The worst of the bunch were the Inspiron 1100, 1150, and 5100 which were plagued with so much heat that it would cause the ram slots to warp! If I were buying a brand new laptop it would be either a Toshiba or an IBM.

They are good machines. My only complaint is that it is very hard to find drivers for them if you have to reload. That was true with XP, not sure about Vista.

if I was buying a new laptop i would get a mac. I have an HP and it has to date had the key board replaced, screen replaced, Hard drive replaced, heat sink and CPU fan replaced, ram replaced, and that thingy where to power cable plugs into it. My warranty runs out next month.

I bought my brother a toshiba at the same time and it has had not 1 issue in 2 years

Wow, sorry to hear about your trouble with your HP. My Compaq has been awesome...it's really hit and miss to get a decent machine anymore. I would buy a Mac too. The iBook I had before was amazing.

Toshiba is probably a better choice than HP/Compaq and Dell.

Acer laptops are also a good buy.

Im sold on the toshiba for durablity. I'm on my 3rd one. They have always done me good for what I use them for, pretty much your average "surfing" and playing a little with solid works. And every thing seems to work for me.

All the ones I have bought I've goten for in the 700 range out the door. so they are not the TOP of the line.

the only toshiba I have had that dead was cause beer and laptops dont mix to well.was a bit :tease: and got triped up on the cord and it went flying. But I had it for 2 years.

The 2nd one is still running strong. I use it as a travel computer, and its taken it fair share of abuse.its about 3 or 4 years old now.

the "new" one I have now that I use the most, has not given me any problems ethier....runs pretty much ever thing Ive stuck on it.

had a compac CPU, hard drive, cd rom, and the screen with in 90 days.was told I left it on to much....sold it on graigs list..and got anouther toshiba. as I leave these things on pretty much 24/7..and they all have lasted 2 plus years doing that.

vista's not to bad, just got to get use to it.and find all the "free" programs again.....as most XP's "free" progeams wotn work on vista from what I have found..

The toshiba I type this from has been the best computer I have ever owned. Just a solid machine. Not ultra powerful or massive, just a vanilla computer that seems indestructible, on the end of my 3rd year of constant use and not a hiccup.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite (laptop) in 2005. Sent it in at LEAST twice for repair because it kept overheating and shutting off.

Someone told me the problem was only specific to that (Satellite) model though.

I have a big blue stripe going up my screen that's been there for at least the last 6 months or more. I need a new screen.

i got my Toshiba Satellite in may of '07 and i LOVE it! its got vista but that just took alittle getting used to. i have not had one issue to date and im kinda upset i payed for the extra warrenty lol i think mine was like $730 out the door..my roommate also has one a few months older..no issues to date either.

toshibas are good lappys, my cousin had one it worked good till the screen cracked itself, not sure how it happend really cause no one was home at the time lol

hey, thanks for all the replies. looks like Toshiba is a solid contender, plus I like the fact that there is at least 3 stores in town that sell them, and it doesn't need to be mailordered.
