Ok guys. I'm ordering what I need to get this done finally. What is torsion bar springs? Is this the correct stuff? What do you need to know so I can ensure I am ordering the proper kit?

Rangers came with two types of front suspensions, coil springs and torsion bars. Coil springs are well, coil springs. Torsion bars are long rods that go from the lower control arm to the frame just below the doors. You have to verify which you have before ordering parts.

Yes those would be the parts designed for the torsion bar style front end. The control arms and ball joints are different for the coil spring style front suspension.

Dang. They all say that!! Guess I will try 1A auto

Someone at 1A auto said a kit I am looking at will work as long as it is RWD. Does that sound correct? Maybe 4WD is torsion and RWD is coil?? The kit does not specify like at Rockauto.....

They used both types of suspensions on both 4WD and 2WD over the years. Do you have coils or torsion bars?

If you are talking about the 2wd 99 in your signature, then it has coils for front springs.

That's the one. Ty!! I just want to make sure I am ordering the correct stuff. On Rockauto they specify coil or torsion(and have NONE for coil) but on 1A auto they only say RWD...... no specificity about coils or torsion. Ugh!!! I hate being ignorant

There are so many different variations on stuff like that it's impossible to know it all. Some years certain models got coil, some got torsion and there really seems to be no logical reason they ever used one type over the other...

C'mon!!! You are better than that!!! Lol. Jk. I appreciate all you guys can do. I will be asking alot this weekend I'm sure as I tackle this job. I have never done this type of work before. Learning as I go. I have an alignment all set up for Monday. Will be marking/counting threads on tie rods. Any other advise??

It's a fairly straightforward job, mostly just dealing with rusty bolts and the lower ball joints will fight you like hell to get out. Be careful when dealing with separating the spindle from the control arms and make sure the lower control arm is supported by a jack so the spring doesn't go boing into your face...

Only special tools is a press and tie rod tool correct?
