Hi I have a 94 ranger that would not shift into overdrive. I brought it to the transmission place and he went through wiring and solenoid a and concluded that it was the torque converter. Looking back it had the "shudder" that everyone describes it has when they go out. He wanted 800$ to put a new TC in so I did it myself. With the new TC in it will not shift out of first now unless it is manually put in 2nd. It is an auto tranny. And help would be very appreciated! Luke

Well I do generally agree that the presence of a torque converter is a problem I don't see converter causing a loss of OD only. I can see it causing a loss of lockup, and a perception of losing OD.

It is odd that you lost 1st and 2nd by replacing the converter though. I would look at all your linkages, make sure the cable is adjusted properly, and the fluid is full as a start.

Yes linkage was checked and tranny was filled then drove for a quarter mile and topped off. Fluid is clean. Tranny was simply dropped out and put back in. Nothing evasive just the TC replacement

Also it shifts hard now. When going from neutral to drive it lurches even with the brake compressed hard
