Torn!! Samuarai Or 67 F250

If the 67' still has the original driveline under it it should have a closed knuckle coarse spline front end that is not only hard to find parts for but is significantly weaker then it's newer counterparts. That would be the only thing making my decision sway away from the ford and towards the Sami.

hmm yes its closed knuckle....but a newer front end bolts right under...i was thinking worst case get the truck running which all i have to do now is re bead the rear tires ansd see if it will sell for a bog truck...ive had offers on the t-case for 350 already

I would restore the '67, there is a lot of stuff on my wish list before a Suzuki.

sami no question. i used to have a tracker, pound for pound the best wheelers out there. they just never got the credit.

If you wanted to drive 200+ miles to go wheeling, then I would keep the 250 as a tow rig and the sami as a wheeler. Think about it, whichever one you pick, you may break something 200+ miles from home, then what?

I do a lot of work for a local towing comapny that owes me favors no big deal on the breakage... besides i havent broken a lot that i couldnt fix on the tail or the next day... I was thinking sell the engine trans and t case from the 67 and use the asxle under the sammi one day then it'd be damn near unbreakable

Or a Good stout piece of classic american iron with a Stout run forever torque monster 300, a stout 4sp, stout axles, stout frame, stout body....

No just stateing the obvious facts.

Anyone whos going to argue that a samuri can take more abuse then a F250 (espically of that era with that particular drivetrain) is crazy.

The only thing i can see a samuri doing better then that F250 is going further on a tank of fuel, oh and being able to wedge down tight trails. BUt with that F250 with a large bullbar on the front any thing that gets in your way just barrel it over.

Your 'facts' have nothing to do with the comparison that the OP is asking for. They're COMPLETELY different vehicles, built for different purposes. For off road use, each has adequate parts for their own weight. The Samurai has no need whatsoever for the suspension and drivetrain that is on the Ford. It can take just as much abuse as the Ford can, and it's a lot cheaper to build. Obviously if you're going out to tow a load, the Samurai is completely inadequate. By the same token, the Ford is worthless at getting down a tight trail. Each has their place.

yeah..... sorry dustin. the only people that knock the samurai are people that have never had one. they are stupid simple and reliable, weigh like 5 pounds or some ungodly ridiculous light weight, will go anywhere ground clearance allows, and you can beat the crap out of them all day long with out breaking anything.

I never had a samuri...your right..ive known people who have had them, and i owned a 66 F250 at one point...so i know what kind of beasts they are.

Maybe i was a little biased...but i would still say the F250...in the end the abilty to add big tires and what not and have the drivetrain be able to handle it will make it a better offroader with better build potential.

....the drivetrain under a suzuki wont hold up to a Good running V8 with 38's.

To a V8, no. If you're swapping a V8 into a vehicle that size, you need your head examined. It wouldn't have any wheeling purpose at all. Plenty of people have made other more practical swaps, however. VW diesel engines, even Cologne V6's have all been used with great success. There are lots of Sammy's running around on 33's, 35's etc... That size tire with the wheelbase of a Samurai gets you far better approach and departure angles than you'd ever see with a full size on 38's.
