how do you disengage or bypass the top speer limiter (govenor) on a 1993 ford ranger 4.0 v6 any ideas?

before you start getting on me about how "your not soposed to drive that fast"
i have speed rated tires caipable of handleing the speeds of 115+
i have modified the suspension to wistand high speeds
i am scca licensed and caipable of driving safely at high speeds
i plan to race on a track not public roads

Just curious, what did you do to modify the suspension?

after market low rise coilovers and beefier sway bar drops the truck 2'' and makes it ride like a dream at 100 yet it tops out at 115

I hope you are racing on an oval because the only place where you are gonna get to 115plus in a ranger without forced induction on a road circuit is at Road America.

And if so watch out for Turn 5 and Turn 12 (aka "Canada")

BTW, I wasn't aware that a 1993 4.0 Ranger HAD a speed limiter.

I have a 1993 Explorer computer running my 4.0 engine
and I've been to 120plus (And yes I have a speedometer that
shows those speeds... and beyond) without finding it...

i hate canada
it will get up to 115 pretty quickly about mile and a half
and when i get up to 115 i get a fuel cut off but i still have enouf power to get up to maybe 125-130 before i max out the gears.

dont complain, my ranger stops at 90. ill come back to the thread, cuase though i dont really need to go above 90, its sad to know that no matter the case, i can only do 90 mph.

You haven't mentioned any brake mods, or wieght distribution changes, so you will still be unsafe!

One more time, the speed limiter is there for stupid people's protection!

Bob,

I'll try that crap when I'm full up on fuel, but if I'm down 60gallons my truck
tends to get "lively" on the smallest bump that the rear wheels encounter.

unsuprisingly you notice the rear tank being empty far more than the in bed tank.

the main thing you notice if the in-bed tank is dry is the truck accelerates
better without that 250lbs of fuel onboard.

getting it all stopped? with a 1993's stock brakes? I wouldn't try that, but there's a reason my truck has the later (two piston) brakes.

Still it's not a good idea to encourage this.

the only application is if someone is running western (sanctioned) "Open Road" racing
and the OP should mention what kind of racing he's doing (with details so we know he isn't just feeding us the less pleasant output from a dairy barn)

To answer your question of how to eleminate the speed limiter is to send the PCM to a programmer. They can also modify RPM limits and other tables for better performance

hey guys i was about to make a topic about this anyone, my 94 ranger v6 with 5speed manual has a gauge that only goes up to 85, what the limiter? I'm just wondering im not gonna try it

i can go past my gauge to about 95 i think in my 94 4.0 5 speed

the 1993-97 models have a top speed limiter 115 the spedo ends at 85 you just have to get a friend to run a radar to see the top speed

if you by chance have a 93 ranger yes the top speed is set to 90 to match tire speed ratings

i didnt mention brakes but i have instaled a full brembo brake system

and as i said earlier i am scca certified and race on closed course racing i do not advise racing on street roads

stupid people protection? if u would have read the post like a smart person would you wouldnt be complaning, but im assumeing we have difrent opinions on this subject however i assume you do not race your truck so theres no need to go faster yet this is a post about eliminating the top speed limiter not discusing wether it should or shouldn't

What SCCA class does a Ranger run in??????

Though the limiter is there for this reason, and i dont disagree. But i read the manual for teh truck (i think i saw it in there) or it may have been online..,ethier way the speed of the limiter is based on what the tires are compable of....though the tires on my ranger have been changed from the factory ones a few times now...the 90 mph limter is directly based on what the factory tires were rated for. atleast thats what i was told, i could be wrong.

dear bob
if you read my post all i have said is that i am scca certified i have never raced my truck in an scca race
i race my truck in closed course street racing
its not that hard to figure out
