i was watching a show on tv and i saw a 1968 dodge charger to the 1/4 mile in 19.57 seconds with a top speed of 73mph... which surprises me because i was on my road with my truck and i was doing 75 at 2300 rpm... the charger accelerated faster (obviously) but it still made me feel pretty good about my truck:headbang:

That is one slow Dodge. My 68' Cuda with a built small block ran the quarter mile at 12.4 at 120 mph and I set the tach to hold the rpm to 4,200 rpm. This was with street tires '50' series at the rear. Now, when I set the tach to rev to 5,200 rpm I ran the 1/4 mile at 11.7 and my top speed was 131 mph. I raced the 'Cuda every Friday night and it was my dd for over 8 years along with my MGB rally racer and my TR6 rally racer. The good old days of the late '70's when gas was at a decent price!!! AHHHHH, I hate rip off gas mongers!!!!! I sold that' Cuda to a race car collector in Miami.
He also bought my 72 911S Porsche import rally racer with 265 hp. That was one wicked light weight almost street legal car. It was made for Germany only but it got into America by and AF officer and I bought it from him while I was stationed at USSOCOM at Macdill AFB back in '87. That is another story that I already told on our site here!!

I saw the show. It had a 383 in it. Looked good, ran like crap. No reason a 383 should've been so slow unless it had a really crappy gear in it.

I don't get what this thread is about? All of our trucks can do 75 mph...it's really not that fast at all...

I think it was so slow cause the driver hasn't ran but a couple times at the strip and the car had just been built and probably needs tuned and tweeked. I'd think even with crappy gears it should have been alot faster.

Back in the seventies I had a pinto that used to do the quarter in seventeen seconds and high eighties mph. That must have been one slow v8 or perhaps the driver was texting when the lights came down.

I don't get it. If this thread is called "top end speed", are you implying 73mph was as fast as the Charger could go?

This kind of reminds me of when some kid saw the 85mph speedometer my buddies 88 LX 5.0 Mustang and assumed that 85 was as fast as that puppy would go.

well they limited the mustang to 85mph because they were afraid that if they let it hit 88mph the same would happen that happened to that delorean.

Lol stock 2005 3.5 v6 runs 15 sec 1/4 and it's a FWD fat bitch. I topped at 120. Though my Mercedes was limited to 136... Woke up in passenger seat, not able to see 20 feet infront of car to my buddy doing 136 down I-93... Ohh, it was FOGGY!
