and hooked it up to my 21 foot spectrum fish and ski boat and towed it over to the boat launch today to take the boat out for the first time this year and i was hesitant to back it down the 3% grade on the boat launch since the water is down but i did it and it did great then comes time to pull it out and mad was i scared it was just gonna give out since my boat weighs 3500 for trailer and boat but it did great dropped it in to first since its auto matic and it pulled it right out and up the hill needless to say im very confident in the 2.9 now this thing has some power behind it and im glas i found a girl that loves ford rangers as much as i do. thats all wish i could have gotten a vid or some pics:yahoo: :headbang:

lol... good for you, but you might be the only person on here that's confident in a 2.9!

deffiantly aint the only one i know of quite a few ppl on here that love them and i me it did the job with out useing 4x4 just first gear and it did great so thats y im confident in them and it passes cars like no other drop it in second and its a speed demon for being a stock little v6

my 2.9L engine was great....(but the electronic stuff started going bad $50 at a time).....

yea thats the only thing i dont like is the electronics but hell hers is still working great for now but there is one thing i have a 2.3l 5.5 motorcraft motor in my boat and i checked the oil and its no good so im wondering how to change the oil cause it is very cramped in there and cant really look to see where the drain plug is but i found the filter

i love the 2.9l but i hate the 3.0l haha only thing wrong with the 2.9l is the lifter tick and it likes to crack the stock heads but mine never gave me any problems.

yea i hear the lifter tick when i accelerate but other than that its been a dang good truck for having 180k miles and a f'd up transmission well dont reall know if its messed up but it shifts hard between 1 and second while accelerating and then when putting it in reverse it kicks in hard and bucks the truxk but other than that i love it

that 2.9l is a pretty solid motor. i know someone who beat the hell outta his 2.9l and it jus died 2 weeks ago with 450,000 miles on the stock motor!!!

That should be no problem on a short trip once in awhile. My 89 Bronco II 2.9 with 33's towed my 17 ft flats boat up to Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennese a bunch of times over the years I owned it that Bronco. When I left Coronado, California to move back to Tampa to be stationed at USSOCOM I came back with my 83 4x4 Ranger with 33's and towed my flats boat and all my belongings up all those mountain roads with my near stock 2.8 motor. I had no issues towing that boat. I still tow one of my flats boats up to Mississippi, and Tennessee three times a year with my 99 Ranger or my 06 Wrangler. Never had any issues and those hills are steep up there!!!

I like my 2.9. Haven't done a single thing besides a tune up since I've owned it. They need more but overall I'm happy!

I like it as well. Yeah it's not the biggest but it gets the job done. Damn reliable too...I drive it 50+ miles a day.

Just keep it cool!

i love my 2.9 for the most part. They are great with a 5 speed, I'm not a fan of an automatic behind a 2.9, because my first ranger was an automatic with a 2.9. It sucked in the power department but little red with his 2.9 and 5 speed (and no lifter tick!!) are pretty stout i once hauled a 2500 4x4 chevy with a 6.5 diesel for a buddy of mine ( i do not recommend this due to the lack of brakes on the small truck ) non the less i did it, thank god for trailer brakes lol

yea haha i towed a 2004 f150 with my buddies 89 ranger all stock on a 2000 pound trailer haha didnt go far and butnt up the clutch going up hill but i made it lol
