Took the B2 out on its maiden voyage...

My 88s have the fuel reservoir. I had a bad one and opened it up and no filter inside. I have read that some do, maybe year specific. I have read it is just a reservoir and you are correct that there should be a filter after the frame mounted pump going to the engine. I too am eventually going to a one pump system in the tank.

87 does have the EGR, I dont see why you cant make a block off plate at the manifold and that would/should remove the EGR out of the troubleshooting step. I have made block off plate from a soda can in the past.
When all this initially got discovered i unhooked the supply vacuum to the solenoid and blocked it off and it ran good. Which is why i changed the solenoid, and initally the issue was gone....now its not.

Yeah....the low fuel thing was my inital thought when i took it out for a blast down the dirt road right after i got it running and it was having these issues. But now its legal i stopped and put like 30-35 bucks in it (half tank) and its still doing it.

I repulled the codes last night...STILL cant get any KOER codes...and code 31 and 84 are back on the KOEO test. Which both pertain to EGR. Its running the ECM that was originally in my ranger as the bronco's ECM wouldnt give me any codes and it had a weird surge at just above idle....this ECM took care of it.

I dont know i just wonder if that ECM is garbage too.

If i get time today ill poke around some more at it....but IIRC those were the same codes my ranger kept throwing with that ECM and it wouldnt KOER test either.
So… the easy solution for the EGR problem is a computer out of an 88-90 RBV with a 2.9 and a block off for the EGR. It’s one of the only legal deletes for emissions stuff because it’s considered an upgrade because it’s a newer model year.

The capacitors are notorious for going in the old computers as well, so I’d source the EGR block off and the computer at a junkyard and then open the computer and make sure the capacitors are ok or just go ahead and replace them.

Thats what i did on the ranger.

I actually got a spare block off plate come to think of it

If it comes to that ill just buy a remanned 88+ ecm and bite the core...its impossible to find these things in yards around here anymore

Second gen Bronco IIs used the same tank as the first gen’s. Same steel tank. Well, for the EFI trucks. The 83/84 had a different tank, IIRC.

83-84 Rangers had the smaller hole for a fuel sender, EFI came in '85 with the 2.3 so they went to the bigger hole for an in tank fuel pump across the board.

BII's didn't get EFI until '86, given nothing is compatible with a Ranger (tank/sender/pump) I wonder if they changed anything on them until '86 when the 2.9 came out.

Baffles suck, don't wish for them. Makes it an utter PITA to clean up a rusty fuel tank or even gauge the condition of a fuel tank.

I got to thinking too it had a bad FPR when i bought it and who knows how sooted up the valve and passages are in there.

I can keep my eyes open for one if you want. I probably should hunt down some spare computers even though I’d like to switch to aftermarket on most of my stuff.

Probably didn’t change anything. I couldn’t remember if the 2.9 came out in 85 or 86 for the B2

My farm tractor tank wasn’t hard to clean out and inspect despite the baffles… guess it’s all in how they are made…

I have only been around the farmall baffled tanks. They are really fun when the last guy tried to put liner in them too.

I looked in mine, then I dumped a handful of 1B limestone in with some denatured alcohol and shook the crap out of it. Worked like a charm. Had to do a couple cycles but I didn’t have any problems

Thatd be fine. Dont go to nuts though untill i get a chance to look into it

I need to get my green Ranger fixed before I do much junkyard shopping so it’s gonna be a hot minute before I can even look around. As you mentioned, the old stuff isn’t as common in the junkyards either so even when I get to looking it may take awhile to find something

If i get one between now and then ill let ya know
