Tony Raine's Bronco II

Pics of the 8.8 and a set of rims, so my trailer can have its wheels back, haha.

Mocking up the track bar mount

I’ll be running a brace from the track bar bracket to behind this crossmember, so I’m not too worried about losing structural integrity by trimming it down

And the mount so far. I’ve got a big chunk of 3/8” angle that’s 4”x6”, finally found a use for some of it.

Not 100% sold on the curved track bar, might get a straight one….

Got the track bar mount installed. Right now it is bolted on in 3 places. 2 you can see, the other is underneath right behind the track bar

I haven’t made the brace from the mount to the crossmember yet, but I will when the right piece of steel falls in my lap

Picked up the motor and rolled the body underneath

Stopped there for the night. Going away for the weekend, but will resume on Tuesday night, weather permitting.

I remember one of the Top Gear shows, where one of them had a winch on the front, and the other two took and hooked up to the top of a tree, and then let it pull the truck up in to the tree, and they left there for the other to figure out how to get it down.

Thanks!

as far as progress, i do have the motor bolted in and level. But one mount is about 1/4 to 1/2" too far back. so I will pull the motor back out, and move that one forward. while its out, i am going to install the clutch stuff and swap back to the early bronco oil pan, since i think it is going to clear.

so next time the motor is in, its in for good. then i'll bolt on the t-case and start measuring for a transmission mount.

i'll be pretty busy for the next week or 2, so i probably wont have a chance to work on it for awhile.

Tony,
2 Qs for you :

1) When you pulled off the front clip was it riveted or welded to the body?

2) Carbed v8? or are you running FI?

on another side note: I had my mom's 86 Aerostar all the way through HS and into College - I would have kept it but theres no market for restoring vintage minivans LOL vintage minivan lol again

inner fenders and core support are spot welded in a bunch of different places. you can get drill bits just for removing spot welds. get a couple from harbor freight and go to town. there's a pic or two a couple pages back that shows where they are.

mine are getting bolted back on

i'll be running a stock 2bbl intake and the holley 350 2 barrel from my old 2.8

little update, i bought a sunroof from an 85 capri. just cut a big hole in the roof with all the sunroof stuff in the middle. also got a radiator from a 4 banger fox mustang. not sure if it will work, but if it doesn't, i'll just scrap it.

Looks great, scrap the rad. and keep looking.

thanks!

i was having my doubts about the radiator (its from a '92), but its bigger than the radiators in the 60's v8 mustangs, and its in really good shape.

Gung-ho

Great read and documentation of your work. Great project. Really good info on my own designs. Puttin a 351W into my 87 ranger extra cab and learning exery step of the way. The info on the front end removal was great. Thanks for the great thread and inspiration::icon_cheers:

Finally got around to working on the BII again. Pulled the motor out for (hopefully) the last time. Need to fine-tune the motor mount holes and install the clutch. I really think the factory early bronco pan will work, so I bolted it back on.

Noticed the flywheel has few chipped teeth. Is this a big problem? Or can I run it and be ok?
