Todays weather

Well we've got 6 to 8 inches of snow. The high tomorrow is gonna be around 15 with a low tonight around 3. Expected to get another 2 to 4 Thursday. Should make things interesting haha

I used an electric leaf blower to clear the 3/4" of powder we got last night.
I'm the oldest guy on my block, and the only one with a clear driveway at noon today.

all the local school districts cancelled yesterday, AND TOMORROW, the temps aren't even below 0

from experience... if you calculate the wind just right and use it to your advantage, an electric leaf blower is an extremely effective tool against powdery snow...

It seems like every winter, people complain more and more about the cold. They say things like “this is the coldest ever.” Or “it’s never been this cold.” When, in reality, it was colder and nastier just a few years prior. Do people really have such short memories? Or is it just some innate need to exaggerate and make wild claims to sound like we have it worse than anyone else? Are people just getting extremely wimpy? I don’t understand it. Weather conditions have been recorded for many years. It can be verified whether this is really “the coldest ever”, at least in recorded history.

I noticed this when I lived up North. It usually set in around mid-February, when it was weeks into the bitterest part of winter, so I figured it was because we were all just crabby and needed something to complain about. The worst are the cold snaps that come in March/April. You'll get a taste of spring weather, mid-30s feels tropical at that point, and your hope begins returning. Then inevitably another polar wave drops down to kick you right in the gut and remind you who's boss. That usually happens a few times before the sun finally wins and spring sets in.

When I moved here it's reversed; every summer is the hottest one ever. Though according to the NWS report that came out recently that may actually be the case for this area. Regardless, it was definitely very hot.

I'm a regular watcher of the high & low records every day, most of the "coldest/hottest it's ever been are 60- 110 years ago.
on average about once a month the record is way back in the late 1800s.

as a side note, here in northwest Ohio a massive ice sheet covered the land a mere 20,000 years ago.
it was supposed to be between hundreds and perhaps a thousand feet deep.

perhaps global warming was a good thing? :icon_thumby:

This morning on way into work.

We had a summer here I think was 2010ish when I was marking 110, 112 113,114,115 and a few were on up to 118, I was sitting here with only a desk fan in the window.
And if you've read my trip to South Dakota in 76, 77, no, I didn't raise a single gripe at 118

I like to complain at either extreme.

That said... next week looks like we'll be back in the 40's.

That's a lot of temp swing in 7 days. It just seems we don't ever get the time to properly acclimate any more...

It certainly is gone wacky Gump

We had 2 degrees this morning but the sending unit for my weather station is about 6 feet from the furnace exhaust. My cousin 1/4 mile down the road had -5. I'm going to leave my sender where it is so I'll feel better. It's on the shady side of the house so it reads cooler in August, too.
