I used to date a woman who grew up in Montana. I asked her how they dealt with the cold, and she listed;

Wool base layers
Intermediate layers
Carhartt outer layers w or w/o snow pants
Balaclavas
Engine block heaters
Thicker walls, more wall and attic insulation
Nissan Thermoses

got about 3” today, spent 45 min after work with the tractor & blade, the lawn deere could of handled it but the ford 2000 & the 6’ blade makes real quick work of things. Even with gloves my fingers were a bit cold afterwards.

That's my "problem" with sleds now. If I wanted to ride, I'd really have to make a weekend of it.. rent a cabin 2 hours to the north.. blah blah blah.

Too much hassle and expense for a hobby. With tracks on the wheeler I could ride right from my front doorstep whenever I wanted.

That's been my idea as well...no point in wasting money on a sled that I'd have to load up and haul north 3-5 hours (its honestly only a 2 hour drive)...however with idiots that don't know how to drive on a good day think they gotta get out and drive in the snow....add to that a 2 lane narrow, winding, mountain road...and driving way too fast, 1 accident and you are stuck there for hours...totally not worth it especially for just a weekend.

I'd rather have one of those mini-trucks, or my Bronco 2 and just drive right up into the hills behind my house and go where I want. Even at that there isn't enough snow to need tracks, or 4WD most of the time LOL. We got about a foot right around Christmas time, which was enough for me. After the holidays I could care less anymore. I did put the Bronco 2 in 4WD this year for just a day LOL...figured that was enough 4WD use for another year or...umm...3 which was the last time it got put into 4WD, but we had 2 - 3 feet of that white stuff that year. Typically the 4WD don't get used much around here anymore we just don't get the snow that we used to. You can go up to McCall, Donnelly, or Cascade and get into some deep stuff and oftentimes in the winter they have trails along the highway where the sled guys run all the time, pretty cool up there, if it wasn't for having to work, I'd love to live up there, especially when they have the McCall winter carnival...I've lived in southwestern Idaho for 31 years, have yet to go to that winter carnival . I've seen pictures of all the ice sculptures they do up there but never been up there in person, its just not worth the 3-5 hour drive up there as you know there's going to be wrecks on the highway going up and/or coming back and a day isn't enough time to really get to see much, and so many people up there there's no place to park either....can't rent a hotel or anything up there as they're booked out years in advance too. I really need to go up there during the summer and scout out some areas, where I possibly could pull a camp trailer up there and stay in for a few days in order to be able to check out the carnival and some of the old businesses and stuff....but I'd think I would want to rent a sled for that to get around up there, just park the truck and trailer somewhere out of the way and just ride the sled.

I would definitely like for there to be a kei truck in my future lol. Some of em come factory supercharged! throw some gnarly atv tires on it and go do some Billy goatin'

Even the people who were born there have to figure it out as they go. Some never do because, dressing for the weather isn't fashionable. I get more cold than most do and get made fun of for it. I don't know if it's because I was born in SC and then my parents then moved to TX until I was about 6 or it it has been all the deployments to the Middle East since 1990. Maybe a combination of both.

We've gotten about another 3" so far and it's still snowing enough to not bother throwing salt down. But if you don't at least make an attempt to keep the side walks clean. Some sue happy SOB will come around and make sure they fall on it. If you can at least show you've made an attempt, they generally don't have a leg to stand on.

I went out and shoveled with mom. Dad is currently laid up and I’m still not up to snuff. We got the main part of the drive clear, I was struggling to finish, was dizzy as hell and came in and froze for awhile under a blanket and lined flannel in a house that’s 74*. 10/10 would not recommend two concussions in 5 days. This shit has long past gotten old. Not to mention it was like shoveling 5” of dust because it was that powdery snow here that you can’t throw any meaningful distance.

Yeah, the light powdery stuff is annoying to shovel. It just slides right off the shovel unless you go old school and buy a coal shovel. Better than the heavy wet stuff than screws your back up for several days. Not that the first real snow wasn't a treat. I think it got warm enough that is solidified the snow enough to make the snow blowers complain. And then the snow plow came through...

Ive lived in ohio all my life, I prefer warmer weather but seem to be able to get used to the cooler months for the most part, several years ago (over 20) I was sent to a outboard service school in waukegan illinois, flew in/out of ohare. In february. When I got back home after that I just wore a light sweatshirt the rest of the year, the chicago wind never lets up, my hotel was walking distance of the service school so I walked it every day. was only a week but wow. 20 , no wind & sunny Im usually fine with- unless it was 45 the day before. ohio! temps change quick & often at times.

i think that is my problem. born in socal and raised between there, Hawaii, and south texas. than my army time was at fort benning, ga and the warm months of fort Eustis, va. i get cold easy, too so i wear a fuzzy vest at work or a sweatshirt. people think its to hot for them but i freeze in the shop

I was told dont bother shopping until you get there, they dont sell coats in CA warm enough for true cold weather.

It's a balmy 0 degrees here this morning. We got just a dusting of snow the night before last... just enough to make you shovel a little and put down a little more safe step to keep it from getting slippery.
